The idea living on a barge seems as romantic as a picnic on a warm sunny day with rose's and wine. The simple truth is that it almost like that. Yes it is very fun to live on a barge, however it is a mobile home and such you need to take care of certain things. You need to have fresh water and diesel to make sure your barge can move and to keep you warm at night.
It becomes a routine to live in this way.
For me the change from wide open spaces from Africa to small and contained is rather a large adjustment. Also I have moved from what was the norm to me to the extra ordinary which is the cold climate of the Netherlands. Hot to cold, wide to narrow.
I must admit that it took me two weeks to adjust to this place. I was rather moody. But I think most people would be like that.
The Dutch people so far have been friendly and patient with my lack of there language. I hope that one day that I will speak fleuntly in their language.
At the moment I see the language holding me from being more funny. My brother told me of this. He has had the same problem, leaving him lonely and isolated, which I feel sometimes.
You want to express something but don't have the language thus you feel like a handicapped person.
This is my reality now, I must face it, deal with it, overcome it and be successful.
I hope that everyone who reads this has a great day.
